Materials:
- Buttercream Frosting
- Food Coloring
- Bench Scraper
- Offset Spatula
- Turntable
- Royal Icing
First I started by giving my cake a crumb coat. This is a thin layer of icing that will lock in the crumbs so they don’t show on my finished layer of icing.
With an off set spatula, start “painting” spots with your two lightest colors.
Once you have them all over the cake. Hold side edge of your bench scraper flat on the turntable and at a 45 degree angle from the cake.
Start to spin the cake and let the bench scraper to the work.
Continue the previous step with the rest of the colors of icing until you have your desired darkness.
This is the final blend I was happy with.
Next I piped my details with royal icing, I wanted them to look like a child was doodling, so I tried to make them a little imperfect.
And lastly, I painted some of the stars and the moon with gold food coloring once the royal icing set up.
I can’t wait to see what cakes you come up with! Tag us or email us your creations, we’d love to see them!
Fabulous
