I was talking to a co-worker of mine about her little girls 2nd birthday coming up. She was telling me about the full on tiki bar she and her husband had built in their backyard!!! She’s throwing the party outside by the pool and the tiki bar will be the main focus. I got super excited, all the ideas started racing through my head! I asked her if I could make some decorations for the party. She said absolutely!
I wanted to do something that played well with the tiki bar, something that had a tropical or Luau feel. Off I went, as I was researching some ideas, I came across some really cute fruit colored balloon garlands, and then it hit me… Two-tti Frutti!!! I sent her some inspiration photos of what I was thinking and she was on board!
I started by making these super cute and fairly easy fruit themed letters to spell out “Two”. I used these as a sign for the tiki bar. I made them from a pack of multicolored cardstock and glue dots. I used my cutting machine to cut out the letters, watermelon seeds, and the pineapple top. The rest I eye-balled and cut by hand. All three took me about an hour total to make.
As for the balloon garland I went with 5 different colored balloons:
- Yellow
- Pink
- Magenta
- Lime green
- Orange
Tisha’s Tip– I was able to find all 5 of these colors at the dollar store. Always check the dollar store first before purchasing anywhere else, majority of the time they will have what you need. Each dollar store has slightly different supplies, I was only able to find the yellow, green, and light pink at one dollar store and found the orange and magenta at another.
I also found these really cute mylar pineapples at the dollar store. They acted as the perfect accent to the garland. I added paper fans and honeycomb balls to help fill out the garland and to give it some texture. I was really happy with how they were working together.
Lastly, to bring in more tropical flare, and to give another layer of dimension, I added monstera leaves between some of the balloons.
This was a simple display the required very little prep and packed a big punch! Total set up time was about an hour and 30 minutes. Of course it was one of the windiest days we’ve had so far in Vegas. About 20 balloons popped and it was a little difficult to wrangle them in the wind, but all in all it was a breeze! haha
I can’t wait to see what you make from your dollar store finds, please tag us or email us your parties! We’d love to see them!!
Happy Crafting,
