Taco TWOsday

One of my besties decided to go with this awesome theme for her little girl, Ariya’s 2nd birthday! As soon as she told me about it I was super excited to get started. I had a full design board finished within the hour!  She decided on the theme far in advance which is great for shopping decorations. She hit up all the stores after cinco de mayo to get items super cheap, love it!

I came across so many cute cakes on pinterest I was feeling empowered and inspired. I decided on making a two tier piñata style cake…. The bottom layer will be ruffles like a piñata, and the top will be my first ever cake covered in fondant…. wish me luck friends…. feeling good about it but my palms are still getting a little clamy just thinking about it!

I found these adorable plaque cookie cutters at Michaels, you guessed it, I had a 40% off coupon…. so into the cart they went! I’m going to cut a plaque out of fondant and write Ariya on it. If all goes well, the plan is to add  this to the front of the cake. Fast forward a few days, as you can see in the photo above, it went well!

I made the “two” cake topper and the mini piñata to put on the top tier!

I want to let you in on a little secret…. I filled the mini 2.5” piñata with sprinkles!  Stoooop!

I also wanted something that was inexpensive that could tie the room together and fill the space a bit. I bought a few packs of lime green balloons at the dollar store to make little these cute balloon cactus.  I displayed them in terra cotta pots, I also scored these pots at the dollar store, it was a major win!

One of my favorite items to buy for parties at the dollar store are these plastic table clothes. You can dress them up in so many ways. For this party, I decided to make a ruffled tablecloth that would resemble the cake.  I had Kelsey help me make this the day before the party. It took a little bit of time, packing tape and…. done!

Easy, cheap, and adorable!

I used a photo back drop frame behind the food table. This is a great hack to block off and/or hide sections of your house. I lined the top with blue painters tape (sticky side facing out) and started to add streamers. This also took a little time but was very easy and the end result is stunning.

My honey, Jose, bought me a Cricut Maker not too long ago and I have been having so much fun with it! (Not sponsored or gifted, I just love the machine and have to share!) I used the Cricut to make this cactus banner. This was a quick and easy project, honestly the longest part was stringing them.

We just moved into a new house two months ago, I made sure to save the large boxes that were in good shape and were sturdy. I knew I’d be able to reuse them to craft projects for the party. Kelsey asked me to make a 2D 3.5ft cactus! I am very pleased with the result, stinkin’ adorable!

This party was a success and fun was had by all! Add some Margaritas, delicious tacos, and that’s a wrap folks!

Kelsey made these cactus cuties from rice crispie treats and dipped them in candy melts! love this! The rods are pretzels dipped in candy melts.

As always, I hope this party has gotten your creative juices pumping and has sparked some inspiration for your next event!

Until next week,
