For the cake I used my all time favorite hack! A bought it from the grocery store and asked them to only do the crumb coat. (thin layer of white icing to lock the crumbs in)
I made my favorite buttercream by meaningful mama! Click here for the recipe
I start by dumping a large amount of icing on the center top of the cake.
Using my offset spatula I start working the icing out to the edge and then down the sides of the cake. Add more icing using your spatula as needed.
You want there to be more than you think you need. We are going to scrap the sides down and it will remove a lot of the excess icing. However, if you don’t have enough icing, it will be difficult to get a smooth finish.
Next, using your scrapper, holding it flat on the turn table and at a 45 degree angle from the cake. Gently start rotating applying very little pressure.
Once you have a nice smooth finish it’s time to start piping! I used the wilton tip #12 to create my little cloud clusters.
I continued with the same tip to do a border around the top perimeter of the cake.
I then rolled out my store bought fondant and used this cute little fondant cutters I ordered online.
I put a little bit of vodka in a shot glass and dipped a tooth pick into food coloring and then into the vodka to give it a pastel tint. Using a food grade brush, watercolor paint your balloons.
To attach the balloons, simply wet your finger and rub the back of the balloon, this makes the fondant stick very well.
Next up, the Topper!
