DIY Unicorn Bust

Materials:

  • Paper grocery bags
  • Newspaper
  • School glue
  • Water
  • Tape

Crumple up the bags into three different sized balls.

Line them up in size order and tape them to start sculpting the unicorns face shape. Next add some rolled up bags to start building out the neck. I also attached ears at this point.

Once I have a rough shape I made my glue mixture. I did a 1 to 1 ratio glue to water. Cut strips of brown paper bag and dip into your glue mixture. Use the paper mache to cover the paper shopping bag balls and sculpt more detail into the unicorns head.

Twist long pieces of paper bag dipped in your school glue mixture to make the unicorns hair.

Cut out a plaque shape from a cardboard box

Tape around the neck and attach it to a plaque.

Paper mache the plaque and neck section with newspaper to make it sturdy and durable.

Allow to dry completely

Cut 2 – 2” long  slits all the way through the plaque on either side of the unicorns neck. String a decorative ribbon around the neck, through the slits, and then tie the ends in a knot behind the plaque. This will act as a hanging loop as well as extra security to ensure the head wouldn’t detach from the plaque.

Spray paint white entire bust, allow to dry.

Hand paint the plaque with an acrylic paint color of choice.

Once dry, hot glue silk flowers around the edge.
