Materials:
- Tape
- Scissors
- Floral Wire
- Embroidery Floss
- Cording
- Super Glue
- Glue dots
- Ribbon or (Skewers – if making a cake topper)
Start by making a rainbow shape with your cording. Cut at your desired length and tape both ends to prevent the cording from unraveling. Do this for each strip. One strip per color, I chose 5 colors so I made 5 strips.
Cut the floral wire so it stops before your tape on either end. Secure the wire to the cording with a small strip of tape at each end of the wire.
Knot your embroidery floss around one end right under the piece of tape on the end. Make sure the tail of your knot is longer than the cording. DO NOT cut the embroidery floss, leave it attached to the bundle.
Start wrapping the floss around the cording and tail.
Stop just before the tape on the other end and knot the floss to the tail, put a small dot of super glue on the knot, and trim off the excess floss.
Continue the previous step with every color
Start with your center two strands and stitch together with a needle and thread.
Continue stitching each layer one at a time until all the colors of your rainbow is stitched.
Cut the tape off the ends of the cording
Brush cording ends with a wire hairbrush or a wide-tooth comb. Trim the ends if they are uneven!
WALL HANGING: Hot glue or stitch a loop of ribbon on the back to make a wall hanging or doorknob hanger.
CAKE TOPPER: Add glue dots to either side on the back and stick wooden skewers to it to make an instant cake topper!
I used mine as a cake topper for Della’s half birthday celebration! Afterward, the skewers and glue dots came off easily, I added a loop on the back and hung it in Della’s Room on her gallery wall!
Della absolutely loved this project, it’s a little time consuming but completely worth it, give it a shot! Tag us @littlepartygirlco on instagram or send us photos of your creations!
Happy Crafting!
