Constellations Baby Shower

One of my best friends Meghann decided she didn’t want to wait any longer to start a family, She made a brave and life altering decision to jump head first into trying to get pregnant. I was her roommate at the time. She went through all kinds of fertility tests, hormone altering meds, and shots that I’d help give to her.  After a long and emotional journey, she was told it wasn’t possible for her to get pregnant.

Check out her blog, The B Plan, to read about her entire IVF journey.

She ended up having two donors, one for the eggs, and one for the sperm. After they fertilized the eggs at the lab, two took. One was a girl and one was a boy. I went with Meggy to be inseminated, cue Marvin Gaye.

The embryo they used first was the girl, I’ll never forget the day we got the phone call that it was not a viable pregnancy.

She had one last shot to carry her child, this time it was with the boy embryo. Off we went to the fertility clinic wearing our blue clothing for good luck…. and bam! The little guy stuck, Meghann was officially pregnant!! Yes!

Our bestie Kelsey and I decided to throw Meghann a beautiful baby shower. Because we felt like all the stars and heavens were in alignment to bring us baby Aiden we went with a constellation theme!

Her house is quite open but has the dining room kind of sectioned off. I wanted to come up with an easy and cost effective way to tie the whole downstairs together. I decided on making star garland that I would cut at different lengths, and hang from the ceiling, as well as making little cloud balloon clusters.

I made a giant balloon garland for behind the food table and hung twinkling star lights from the garland to act as our back drop.

Kelsey found this fun back drop online for the photo booth, I added a balloon garland to the top and bottom to tie it in to the rest of the house and it was a major success!

Meghann asked me to help design/style his nursery, we decided to carry the theme from the shower into the nursery. I wanted to do something special for the shower that would act as decoration for the room. I painted a starry night sky with constellations on a canvas and had all the guests of the shower sign it with a gold pen. It made a beautiful, personal, one of kind piece of Artwork for the Nursery.

The constellation cake was a show stopper and so incredibly easy to decorate! I used buttercream in several different colors to get the night sky effect and then used royal icing to pipe the constellations, moon, and stars.

I made the hanging moon out of items I had laying around the house Cardboard box, paper maché, and streamers. It was so simple but it was a beautiful focal point in the living room.

The Beautiful Mom to be!
I decided to make little Aiden a quilt that went along with the constellations theme for the Nursery.

This shower was a success and extremely emotional, after Meghann’s crazy journey, we were all so happy to be together celebrating this miracle baby!

We love you Aiden!
