Boho Baby Shower

My Co-Worker and friend, Amanda, was having a baby and decided she was going to wait to find out the sex! Ronnie and I teamed up to co-host the shower, we wanted it to be unisex and super classy! We decided on a Woodland Boho Theme!

I started by researching eucalyptus prices for both real and artificial stems. Both were wayyyyyy out of our budget considering how much we wanted to use for the party. We wanted to make the beautiful greenery hoops that are trending all over Pinterest, a centerpiece of greenery garland that would be the focal point of the family style long table, and on the welcome sign.

It wouldn’t be a Little Party Girl event without my Assistant sneaking in a pic! My friend AJ made the plywood sign for me, he added mitered edge trim and stained it for us!

Even with all the coupons and spring floral sales in the world I just couldn’t seem to make this happen. So I bought a few stems with a coupon that were on sale for $2.99 a piece and decided to make the rest!

While this was a little time consuming, it was really quite easy. I ended up cutting enough leaves by hand to make about 40ft of garland. I also had Ronnie help me cut out organic spirals that I would roll up into paper flowers. Once I had most of the paper cut out, Jose surprised me with a cricut maker!!!! ( Not afiliated or gifted) This made the rest of the shower super easy to do by hand! It also opened many doors to new projects about 2 weeks before the shower…. I was on a mission:

  • 1. Learn how to use this magical machine
  • 2. Make several new projects for the shower
  • I made the following projects with the cricut:
  • Leaves for hoops
  • “Oh baby” hanging sign for the hoop
  • “Oh baby” cake topper
  • Drink stirrers
  • “Welcome” for welcome sign.
I added this to two skewers and we used this as our cake topper

Ronnie ordered the cake “naked” from the grocery store and we stacked and decorated it ourselves. So, a little lesson learned, when stacking the cakes….DO NOT REMOVE THE CARDBOARD CAKE ROUND!!!! lol In the middle of the last minute scramble before the party started, I removed the cake round before stacking the cakes. I added straws for support to the bottom layer before stacking, but removing the cardboard round really messed us up! Ronnie and I ran into the kitchen with the cake as soon as we noticed it sinking. We lifted the top layer off the cake with two spatulas, replaced the cake round under the top layer, and added some extra buttercream to conceal the cardboard. PHEW crisis averted and it’s safe to say I will never make this mistake again!! We still laugh about that moment to this day.

I made the deer cookies last minute with items I had in my pantry. I had a store bought sugar cookie dough mix on hand. On the package is has the option to make a dough for cookies cutters instead of a spooning them onto a cookie sheet. I semi-followed the directions and put my own twist on it…I am my mothers daughter after all! She can’t make the same recipe twice because she is always getting creative with what she has in the pantry. The woman can make a gourmet 4 course meal with “no food in the house”.

I added coco powder in place of 1/4 cup of the flour the recipe called for. This gave me the perfect color I needed for the deer.

I printed out an image of the deer we used for the invitations, cut it out, and used a sharp paring knife to cut the image out of the cookie dough.

I piped the ears and the dots with left over buttercream from the cake. They came out really cute and they were delicious!

The food table was another beautiful display for this party. The Mom and Dad to be love Italian food so we ran with the idea. We ordered pizza from a Brooklyn-Style Pizzeria and asked them not to slice the pies. We cut them ourselves once we got them. This is a great tip to make the food stretch a little more and get a bigger bang for your buck!

I made mini meatballs and a gravy (Not that thick brown stuff, the yummy gravy or as some would call a “Sauce”). I cooked these ahead of time, allowed them to cool, put them in a freezer ziplock bag, and popped them in the freezer. I pulled them out the morning of the party and put them in a crock pot while we were setting up and decorating. All we did was toast some baguette with shredded mozzarella and add the meatballs to the bread. Quick, easy, and delicious!

Ronnie is famous for his fruit and cheese boards, I mean is this to die for or what? He started by placing all the crackers in nice piles, then slowly started adding fruits and cheeses. A great tip is to have some of the items cascade and spill off the edge of the cutting board. This adds great movement and style to your display.

The best part of this shower was the little man, Riley decided to crash his own baby shower! Amanda got home from the hospital the day before the party, she was a trooper and decided she still wanted to go through with it!

The party was a huge success, everyone had a wonderful time. I challenge you to make some decorations out of paper for your next party, it’s totally worth the little bit of extra time. Happy crafting!
